The Struthers girl’s basketball team won against Youngstown East on December 11.
After facing a tough loss last year at East, the team has been looking forward to playing this school again. They’ve been preparing throughout the season for this game. When the day finally came, they wanted nothing more than to come back better than they were before.
Sophomore Natalie Adams was very happy with the Cats’ redemption.
“We’ve improved so much throughout the season so far, and I enjoyed beating East and getting the rematch the team has been wanting,” says Adams.
This was a competitive game the girls played, keeping it close all the way up until the end, when Struthers won with a six-point lead. The stands were filled, and the energy remained from start to finish, which players believe to help them immensely when playing.
Adams feels that she plays way better when there is energy from the team and the fans.
“The stands at this past game had a lot of people, including a lot of my friends, that came out to support. When everyone in the gym’s energy is high, it allows us to play better and enjoy it ten times more,” says Adams.
Struthers as a whole is very pleased with this win and are hoping that it encourages and carries out for the rest of the games to come. Prior to this game, the team suffered two, very close game losses. However, after this great win, the team feels much more confident.
Adams is way more motivated for the rest of the season after this win.
“Now that we’ve got our first win, and redemption on Youngstown East, we will continue to have high energy and bring home victories,” says Adams.
