BARTH TAKES ON TENNIS

Mr. Barth is the boys tennis coach at SHS.

Jonathan Barth is a math teacher and boys tennis coach at Struthers High School.

Mr. Barth has been teaching for 11 years and coaching for two.

Coaching and teaching was never Barth’s first choice once it came to careers.

“I never wanted to coach really, someone vacated the position and I took it. I always wanted to be an engineer, but I didn’t like it and then taught,” says Barth.

Barth went to Struthers Elementary School in second grade and graduated from Struthers High School. He attended Youngstown State University for college.

Mr. Barth taught in various buildings but has only coached at Struthers High School.

“I have only coached at Struthers, I played at Struthers too. I taught at Valley Christian and Struthers Middle School and Struthers High School,” says Barth.

Both Mr. Barth and his wife work with Struthers City Schools. His wife was a nurse at Struthers High School, but eventually moved to Struthers Middle School.

Barth enjoys the aspect of helping people learn and understand with both of his jobs.

“I like when someone isn’t understanding something, and I can help them understand,” says Barth.

Amira West, Feature Writer

Amira is a Freshman at Struthers High School and is 14 years old. She is a Feature writer in Journalism I. Amira’s favorite part about school is hanging out with friends and sports. She participates in Interact Club, Medical Careers Club, and Future Teachers Club. She plays volleyball and runs track during the spring. Amira has many expectations for herself including ending the year with mostly A’s. Her favorite part of journalism is writing about topics she has interest in.

Ava Pokopatz, Feature Writer

Ava Pokopatz is a senior at Struthers High School and is 17 years old. This is her first year in Journalism. Ava’s favorite food is sushi and pasta. She really enjoys going out with her friends and just going and driving around. She is a member of the National Honors Society. She is planning on having the best time and memories during her senior year. Ava has been involved in the Struthers school community for a little while. She was a part of the track team her freshman and sophomore year, but she does plan on running again for her senior year. She is also participating in many different clubs through the school. She has been a wildcat for almost her whole life. Ava is really looking forward to experiencing journalism and finding her writing style. She really enjoys writing so this will be a great way for her to express herself. She is doing this with her favorite teacher Mrs. Mickler, so she is going to have an amazing year.
