Amira West is a freshman at Struthers High School. She is a multi-sport student-athlete participating in volleyball and track and field for her second year. She is looking forward to the rest of the season and seasons to come.
West loves track and finds a lot of joy in her sport. She’s been running track for the past two years and is positive she will continue playing throughout high school. Track is one of her favorite pastimes and is happy to dedicate her time to training to improve her skills.
West considers track to be very therapeutic and empowering. It allows her to build herself up for future things.
“I like how the whole time I focus on myself. It makes me want to make myself faster and stronger for volleyball as well. It’s full of conditioning and helps me get better,” says West.
West runs many different events in track and field. Her main events include the 4×100 relay and the 4×200 relay. She also occasionally, when necessary, runs the open 100m and open 200m.
Some sports tend to interfere with school but West has a different experience with track.
“Everything seems perfectly planned, so I always have time to get my schoolwork done before or after track,” says West.
West is very happy with her track career up to this point and hopes to become more successful throughout high school. She makes sure to always do her best whenever given the chance, and she is very grateful to be able to enjoy this sport with her friends.
West would like to continue track after high school, but she has mixed opinions on the subject.
“I would like to continue track after high school, but I would have to work 10 times harder to get faster which is unrealistic based on where I currently stand,” says West.
