The Struthers track team is practicing on the track and lifting in the weight room, getting ready for the upcoming meets.

There are returning track athletes and new ones experiencing high school track for the first time.

The high school track team has been busy putting in work for the start of the season. They have been lifting in the weight room when the weather is bad and conditioning when it’s nice out. There is a decent amount of track athletes this year, so everyone is getting hyped for this season’s new possibilities.

For the sprinters, things are already off to a great start.

“Our team has been improving on block starts. I feel so far this season we have already been working on them a lot more than we did in previous years,” says Natalie Wolikow, returning three year sprinter.

For the track part of track and field, there are many exciting events athletes can run. Including the 100, 200, 400 meter dashes and relays. There are also 100, 110, and 300 meter hurdles. To run these events, the athletes have been doing a lot of conditioning and exercise to get faster, not to mention long jump and high jump.

There are many things to be hyped up about.

“I’m excited for my relay team to be put together again and to run in meets with them. That is my favorite part of track and I’m excited to be sharing races and victories with some of my best friends,” says Wolikow.

As for the field part of track, they have been working just as hard for the season. The field part of track consists of discus and shotput. So the throwers have to be extra strong, spending more time in the weight room. All the throwers are working and striding for new PRs this season.

Bella Sahli is ready and putting in the work.

“The biggest challenge with pre-season is mainly getting back into the groove of things. It’s hard to go from doing basically a completely different sport and nearly no throwing to throwing every day and being expected to perform. I’m working on getting back into it,” says Sahli, a three-year returning thrower.

Overall, the common theme with all these athletes is they are all putting in the work and are striving for nothing less than a successful season.
