“Descendants” is a 2015 Disney Channel Original Movie that follows the children of classic Disney villains as they navigate high school and self-discovery, explore their identities through music and dance, and decide whether they should be evil, like their parents, or good, like their peers. The movie features a great cast including Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewawrt and Sofia Carson in the fictional kingdom of Auradon.

“Descendants” follows the children of the classic villains of Disney, Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos, who are given the chance to attend a prep school in the kingdom of Auradon. Led by Mal, the daughter of Maleficent, the group faces challenges as they navigate high school life while trying to figure out their own identities. Through the challenges, they all ultimately learn the importance of friendship, acceptance and choosing their own paths.

Dancing plays a big role in this film. The choreography not only entertains the viewers, but also serves as a way of self-expression and unity with the other students who disagree with the villain kids. Dancing becomes a powerful way of showing emotions throughout the movie, for a better understanding to the audience. Through dance, the characters show emotions, relationships and exemplify confidence.

In “Descendants,” music serves as a strong element that enhances the overall story. From super catchy pop songs to sad and meaningful songs, the film’s soundtrack features a range of songs that resonate with the characters’ journeys. Each tune is written to reflect on the themes of friendship, acceptance and self-discovery. With each lyric being meaningful to the story, the soundtrack leaves a lasting impression of the theme on the audience.

This is a very joyful film for anyone of all ages; its rating is a 9/10.
