Andrew Brabant is a permanent substitute and the boys’ bowling coach at Struthers High School.
Brabant has been bowling since he was about 7 or 8 years old.
This past bowling season did not go as planned due to last year’s graduates.
“Three key guys graduated last year, and we had to work with freshmen and fresh faces,” says Brabant.
AB has been juggling coaching, school and being a substitute teacher all at once.
When it comes to inspiration overall, Andrew’s biggest would be Coach Herb Brooks, who coached a successful team of college students.
“Coach Herb Brooks is the coach of an Olympics hockey team. At the time, professionals were not able to play in the Olympics, so they had to play with a bunch of college students, and they ended up beating the Soviet Union,” says Brabant.
Brabant goes to the University of Cincinnati online with a dream of being an athletic director anywhere.
Being familiar and seeing many known faces every day would be one of the best parts about working at the school.
“Coming back to school every day and seeing new and familiar faces, and getting to work on my schoolwork is probably the best,” says Brabant.
