PERCY JACKSON PREVAILS

In late June of 2005, the first book ever in the Percy Jackson series was published and presented to the world. This young-adult Olympian tale took the world by storm, and “The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordon had left no room for anybody to steal its thunder.

This series is quite literally a godsend. The readers are introduced to the main character, Percy Jackson, who is a young man that gets selected to come to Camp Half-Blood. Jackson has a unique and witty personality, along with sarcasm that will have readers hooked by the first few pages. He, being paired with the rest of the lovable characters, sanctions the series a good and long run.

After the initial success of the pilot book, fans all over demanded more, needing desperately to know more about the world of the Olympians. The premise, as well as the characters and unique mythology that comes with a book centered around Gods, is plentiful.

The appeal stems from the minds of those who enjoy disappearing into a different world. We can become superheroes, gods and other fantastical imaginations to our hearts desire. The series does indeed deliver on a way to pass time and get lost in fantasy.

Classical beings such as Athena, Poseidon and, of course, Zues. Other more minor gods are implemented as well, playing large and small roles throughout the series. Others include Demeter, Ares, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Herme and Dionysus.

The novels, being based on the Greek Gods and Goddesses of mount Olympus, offer a wide variety of storytelling and diversity into this world. Being selected as a child of one of these gods separates you into a group of similar interests and powers to be discovered, as well as the various strengths and weaknesses.

The first set of books in the Percy Jackson universe contains 6 novels, all dearly beloved by readers. There is also a continuation, being the second and third series, resulting in a total of seventeen total books.

Mythical beasts and even crueler gods challenge our characters to the max. They are presenting very stressful, and page turning scenarios that have you glued to your seat. The series is a staple in middle school reading, classrooms and libraries, and especially in the hearts and minds of readers.

She has dove in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and other more tropical areas. Currently, she has been on 16 dives and has gone down to 70 feet. Her interest in English in general is what charmed Julie to sign up for Journalism. The class offers the chance to write articles for the school newspaper, with freedom to express opinions or commentate on interesting topics of the author’s own choosing. Journalism provides a real-life experience she can carry with her in the next step into maturity. She is enjoying the class and opportunities it offers to her, and believes that it will only continue to improve throughout the year.
