Anthony Carter is a senior at Struthers High School, and the head coach for track is Lou Mateo. He is a four-year letter winner and will be getting his plaque for his fourth year. He has been to almost all of the invitational meets and has placed for every single one of them. He has run the 4×1, 4×2, and the 200 meter dash since his freshman year.
Although Carter does run a lot of events, he does have a favorite.
“My favorite event is the 200 because that is what I’m best at,” says Carter.
After all of the events that he has run in his whole high school career, the 200 is one of the most difficult. Basically, you run half way around the track, but you start on the bend. Then, you have to fastly jog until you hit the end of the bend. Then, you have to sprint as fast as you can to the end of the line. It can be very difficult for certain people with low stamina, but it turns out to be easy for Carter.
Carter is looking forward to a certain race.
“The 4×1 is what I’m most excited for because I get to run with my fellow teammates, but in a competitive environment where we work our hardest to come out on top,” said Carter.
The 4×1 consists of four of the quickest guys and girls on the team. There are two different teams for the 4×1; there is one for the girls and one for the guys. It starts with the slower of four guys and then when the time drops, that is the order of teammates. Carter was the third leg, which is the second quickest person on the relay. He has been on that relay team ever since he was freshman, which is a huge deal.
Cater has come along ever since he was a freshman.
“I have made so many improvements ever since freshman year, including my times for each race and my attitude towards the sport in general,” says Carter.
