Mrs. Rohrer is a teacher at Struthers High School.
She has been teaching for many years. She currently teaches 4 different subjects which are Hospitality (Cats Cafe), Nutrition, Life Planning and Child Development. She loves teaching all her students about consumer sciences and health.
Rohrer was inspired by another school cafe class and wanted to try and make it work here.
“After visiting East Palestine High School where they ran a similar program, we wanted to start a program like this at Struthers High School. We knew the program would be a great addition to Struthers and provide hands-on learning for the students, while earning Industry recognized credentials,” says Rohrer.
Teaching isn’t easy as Rohrer struggled during her first couple of years. Even her first couple of years of opening the cafe was hard.
The Struthers teacher struggles to manage her time in her first couple periods of the day.
“Some challenges are balancing orders for all 3 periods. We tend to get most orders in the 1st and 2nd period,” says the Struthers teacher.
When getting the business up and running, there are always changes to be made. She has made them every year and has progressed. There are some new goals she has for the upcoming years ahead.
There are little and big differences to be seen in the Cats Cafe.
“For the future, I would like to see the Cats Cafe continue to grow. I hope to continue to run a successful program here at Struthers High School. I would like to continue to give back to the school with the Cats Cafe program. I would also like to get a display cooler or ice machine for the cafe eventually,” says the cafe advisor.
