Gary Mudryk is a senior at Struthers High School. He has been playing basketball for the past 13 years. His playing position this year is forward, the same position that he played the year prior.
The Struthers basketball team had their first home game of the season on Tuesday, December 5 against Western Reserve. Last year, the team made it to the second round of playoffs but then took a loss to Gilmour Academy. The final score was 69-40 which then knocked them out of the playoffs ending their season with a record of 15-9.
Mudryk has played basketball his whole life and likes being active.
“I’ve played basketball my whole life, and I enjoy competing alongside my teammates,” says Mudryk.
The only time Mudryk didn’t play basketball was his sophomore year. He ended up getting cut which pushed him to work on skill set more. He then pursued and made the team his junior year and is now finished with his senior year.
Mudryk is anticipating this upcoming season.
“I’m excited to start my senior season, and hopefully we come out on top and make it further than we did last year,” says Mudryk.
Mudryk has hope for the team this year and feels like they can make it further in the playoffs than last year. This would be a great thing for the Wildcats because their football team made it to the regional finals in football. So, if the basketball team would make it that far as well, then it would be great for the Class of 2024.
Mudryk faces a lot of challenges in certain teams this year.
“South Range has always been a great team, so I think that will be a very competitive game,” says Mudryk.
