Grady Moore is a senior at Struthers High School.
Many athletes start playing a sport because it’s popular or their family has played in the past. For Moore, his first word was “ball” and he hasn’t been able to put down a basketball since.
Moore started basketball when he was young and has stuck with it throughout all of these years.
“I started playing basketball on an actual team in the 4th grade, but I was shooting on my little tykes hoop as soon as I could walk,” says Moore.
Moore is a point guard for the Struthers Wildcats. His team is focusing on playing together this year instead of playing individually. Moore thinks this season will go well and can see the team’s potential.
Playing in the field house is Moore’s favorite part about playing basketball. He enjoyed watching previous teams play, but enjoys being on the court even more.
“My favorite part is 7 p.m. In the Fieldhouse, nothing beats the feeling, nothing beats the environment. I have been able to watch games there for years, and it is so much better when you get to play,” says Moore.
Athletes also have school to worry about. Balancing school and sports can be difficult at times for athletes, but most have a strive to do good in both.
Moore believes balancing school and his sport can become difficult, but he has learned time-management skills and has excelled in school.
“It gets rough at times, but managing my time is a skill my mother did a great job giving me. I balance my work life and basketball life fairly well and I excel in the classroom,” says Moore.
