JohnRoss Hovanec is a junior at Struthers High School. He plays varsity baseball while attending MCCTC.
Growing up, Hovanec found his love for sports by watching TV as a kid. The impact sports have on young kids lets them find goals for their future.
Hovanec has been playing since he was seven years old.
“I liked watching the games on TV, so I wanted to play like them,” says the athlete.
Baseball is a spring sport, so there are three seasons to achieve goals and work hard. The mental part of baseball is challenging for some, but working hard always pays off.
The off-season is just as important as the regular season.
“I mentally prepare to practice hard, get my diet right, and exercise right,” says Hovanec.
Coaches have a huge impact on kids, especially if they are the right kind of coaches. Athletes will forever remember their coaches and the mark they leave.
The athlete appreciates his coach and the effort he puts in.
“The coaches make it a lot easier to learn and improve on past mistakes and make adjustments in the game,” says the baseball player.
