One of many freshmen, Alexandra Ashraf Karam Milad, has started to participate in high school track and field.
In middle school track and field, they had no specific throwing coach and had to teach themselves. They now have a high school coach and are learning the technique of throwing.
It is hard for people to try and teach themselves anything in general, especially if you’ve never known anything about it.
The middle school track and field team has failed to hire a throwing coach.
“I didn’t have one,” says the shot put and discus thrower.
When people teach themselves, they have little knowledge of what they have to do. When they have someone else to teach them more information, they will proceed to get better in that sport.
Colin Mateo is the high school throwing coach and is big on technique when throwing. Ashraf Karam Milad has not been able to further her distance. With the help of Mateo, she’ll be able to.
“I don’t have a high school record yet, but in middle school, my pr was 10 for shot and 35 for disc,” says Karam Milad.
As freshmen, they get to figure out what they want to do outside of school, whether it is sports or clubs. The plus side with that is if they don’t like a certain sport, they don’t have to continue. If they want to try another, they can because they have four years.
Ashraf Karam Milad is prepared to continue track and many other extracurricular activities.
“I started doing track as another way for me to exercise instead of laying in my bed all day. I’m going into three years of color guard and I’m planning to join tennis,” says Karam Milad.
