Struthers athletes Owen Eisenbraun and Vivian Marker won Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of February 5th.
The athletes were each chosen by their coaches for all of the work they put into the sport. Their dedication and overall effort made them stick out to the coaches for the nomination.
Vivian Marker, the freshman girls’ basketball player, acknowledges why she was picked for the award.
“I play intense no matter what, and I keep the team’s energy up as much as possible. I try to make us more determined to win,” says Marker.
Marker was nominated by the Struthers Athletic Department, and Eisenbraun was nominated by Coach Brabant. Vivian was nominated for her efforts in girls’ basketball, and Owen was nominated for his hard work on the boys bowling team.
Eisenbraun believes his nomination was because of all he accomplished in his sport.
“My achievements in the season and the postseason most likely got me picked. I practice hard, but I feel like I could be further along than I am right now,” says Eisenbraun.
One of the biggest reasons why this award is so valuable is because of the difficult competition to win it. Athletes need to earn it through their work and dedication, which is the most admirable thing about it.
Marker is willing to give advice to others trying to win the same award as her.
“I would tell other athletes who are trying to get nominated to keep their heads up and be there for their teammates,” says Marker.
