Emma Morris is a multi-sport athlete at Struthers High School.
The athlete plays volleyball, basketball, softball and runs track. The softball player has been playing since she was seven. The senior can do it all, playing all around the field at third base, short stop, center field and sometimes pitcher. Not just on the field but off the field, Morris excels being involved in Future Teachers, Medical Careers, Spanish, Interact Club, and being president of NHS.
The busy senior is always able to maintain her athletics and academics.
“I am proactive with my school work and always plan my week ahead to make sure I have enough time for both. If I struggle to balance my time at any point I communicate with my coaches and teachers,” says Morris.
Looking into this year’s softball season, Morris says they started off slow but the team is starting to get their bats going. The first couple of games, the team collectively has had a lot of nice hits, but the pitcher says they need to refine their focus to make the important plays offensively and defensively. The softball player says throughout the years, the coaching has always been great.
One of the third base’s favorite parts about softball has been the coaching.
“Softball has been one of the most fun sports I’ve played the past few years, and I think it is mostly due to the coaches creating a fun atmosphere at practice and games,” says Morris.
Looking into the future, Morris thinks that Struthers softball needs to improve on their defense and get their bats going in the first inning. After high school, the president of NHS plans on attending Westminster College to study psychology and continue playing basketball and possibly softball.
Struthers softball’s center fielder has so many favorite memories that she will miss when she graduates.
“I feel I will miss playing with my friends. A lot of the seniors I have been playing softball with every year since I was in elementary school. They’ve been my teammates for just about my whole life and playing with them has created a lot of good memories,” says Morris.
