PENGUINS WELCOME NEW COACH

The Youngstown State Penguins just finished up the season and are already making big off-season moves. They already had one person enter the transfer portal, and that is John Lovelace Jr.

Jerrod Calhoun accepted a new head coaching position at Utah State University.

The Penguins hired Calhoun’s assistant, Ethan Faulkner. He joined coaching at YSU in 2019.

The Youngstown State fans are already welcoming the new basketball coach.

“What an honor it is to be your next head coach. I’m humbled by the support from so many that have reached out. It’s been truly remarkable to feel the support not only from this community but from my hometown,” says Faulkner.

As a 6’7 sophomore guard, Lovelace averaged 6.6 points per game, while also averaging 2.8 rebounds per game this season.

Faulkner plans on bringing success to the program.

“Jared Calhoun, thank you for taking a chance on me five years ago. Thank you for showing us the blueprint for success here in Youngstown, thank you for laying the foundation for future success. I learned so much from you and will work relentlessly to make sure to build on the success,” says Faulkner.

The Penguins also lose Brett Thompson, Ziggy Reid, Brandon Rush, Bryson Langdon, Dj Burns and Tommy Fryda.

Faulkner wants to continue the play style, like Jerrod Calhoun used to do.

“If it’s not broke don’t fix it right, we’ve been top 25 in the country in scoring two years in a row,” says Faulkner.
