Caleb Sakara is a multi-sport athlete at Struthers High School.
Sakara plays baseball, but his most award-winning sport is football. The senior found his love for football when another Struthers senior, Grady Moore, asked him to play with him. The football player plays left guard and d-tackle. Sakara had a very successful senior year with his biggest accomplishment being first team all Ohio.
Other than making first team all Ohio, Sakara had many other football accomplishments.
“I also made All YSN for Offensive Line, 1st team NE8 for Offensive Line, All NorthEast Ohio 1st team for Offensive line, and All County for Offensive Line,” says Sakara.
Sakara made these accomplishments with the support of the community and his role models. The NE8s offensive line’s motivation started when he was an underclassman and had the upperclassmen as role models. He says watching the pain, sweat and tears he brought everyday made him the man he is today. The community and other Struthers football players are what kept Sakara going.
Sakara puts God first and is thankful he kept him and his team healthy through the years.
“He kept me healthy to be able to play with my team by my side and the city behind my back. Even though I was a senior and being a leader, that doesn’t mean that I wasn’t playing for my brothers by my side. Just seeing how much they wanted it as much as me and just the bond everyone has with each other is inseparable. That’s what kept me going,” says Sakara.
Football has such a big impact on Sakara’s life. It makes him happier every day and is why he takes pride in his achievements. Making first team all Ohio for the Struthers athlete wasn’t small to him. Coming from where he did, making a mark in Struthers football history means everything to him.
Even if the football player didn’t achieve everything he wanted in his football career, he is still proud and wouldn’t change anything.
