Studies remark that the National Report Card of reading scores among high school seniors has fallen to its lowest since 1992. The literacy gap between the highest and the lowest preferred students is significant.
It’s important to note that these declining rates may become a grave issue in regards to the future of the U.S.
While many sources reason that the culprit of this dilemma was the Covid-19 pandemic, the educational regression has predated the dilemma. “American students’ literacy skills peaked in roughly the middle of the last decade and have fallen significantly since that time,” states The Harvard Gazette. Whilst the guilty party is not entirely accounted for, some suggest that the overwhelming rise of screen-centered childhoods has contributed to the increasing idiocy in America. The National Assessment Governing Board claims that about 40% of fourth graders and a third of eighth graders fail to meet the proficiency threshold, thus raising concern for the wellbeing of America’s future.
The paper’s stances may be refuted, in the sense that some individuals may proclaim that literacy is not a necessity, and other valuable assets can contribute to society. But the lack of erudition is the root cause of failure and a flawed civilization. And this not only ascertains one’s fluent comprehension skills, it applies to mathematics, practicality, and standard human functions.
To resolve this issue, the solution may be to limit the screen-time of children, so they may receive the adequate amount of nurturing to prepare them for the future. Another highly palpable fix would be for educators to model their curriculum to mold adolescent minds. Simply put, the cause of low-performing academics is not entirely transparent, but there are obvious flaws that could be mended.
The foolishness found in present-day America is highly corrosive to society as a whole and will ultimately lead to a non-functional civilization if not treated.
