Izabella Shetter is a freshman at Struthers High School. She plays 4 sports: 3 for Struthers and 1 out of school. For Struthers, she plays soccer, basketball and softball. Out of school, Shetter plays MMA for her cousin’s gym team “Beast Mode.” With all of these sports, Shetter has to be on top of everything and work to her best ability.
Shetter has been playing soccer for 10 years now; she started out when she was only 5, making it a sport she’s very connected to. As she’s moved up to high school, she had some problems her freshman year but has continued to work hard and overcome the downs. As she has played soccer for so long, Shetter has been playing MMA for 5 years. MMA is different from the other sports she plays due to how much work it takes and how much of a different format it is from going to playing with a team to being on your own. Shetter has been playing softball and basketball for both 3 years now, making it sports she has been playing since 7th grade.
Shetter loves soccer more than anything other sport she plays due to how long it’s been in her life.
“The sport I like most is soccer because I have been doing it since I was five. I love being a part of it and being a keeper for Struthers soccer. I have had downs and ups with my multisport freshman year and I will progress in time, but I just love the game and learning new things about it,” said Shetter
With playing multiple sports at the same time, Shetter has had some struggles in between with tight schedules and staying dedicated, but with the help from her mom, she has been able to get through it. Shetter thanks her mom for taking her to all her practices and games even when she had a rough day. Her mom is the reason she plays all these sports due to how her mom wasn’t able to get a chance when she was younger. Playing multiple sports keeps Shetter busy and active which she likes, making it less hard on her.
Shetter wouldn’t be able to do all these sports without the help from her mom.
“It can be hard doing multiple sports because of my tight schedule, but I love doing it. It keeps me busy and active, and I don’t know how I do it but mainly my mom is a big help. She gets me to games or practices when I need it even when she has a rough day or not. But all it is, is to keep going all four years and have that dedication with these sports,” said Shetter.
To keep herself from getting burnt out, she makes sure to take care of her body. She tries to eat healthy, stretch, work out and get enough sleep. With doing this, it has helped her stay consistent with her sports. Shetter stays in it and doesn’t stop when things get hard. She pushes herself to her best abilities in and out of school, practicing whenever she gets a chance. It’s hard to be good at multiple sports, but she puts her time into it and gives each sport the same amount of attention. As a multi-sport athlete, Shetter has learned she has to work from her mistakes. She takes what she does wrong and tries to fix it until she gets it right. While playing multiple sports over the years, she had met so many wonderful coaches and teammates who have also helped her through the way.
Shetter has developed as a person over the course of time while being a mulit-sport athlete.
“Each sport has helped me grow as a person by the community learning of others and have just amazing coaches getting me through the path as a multi-sport athlete. Learning off of my mistakes that I made in games and making it up in practice. And also being in multiple sports there’s a benefit of having teammates from different sports and learning off of them differently in each one,” said Shetter.
