Teen sensation Cooper Flagg tops Kon Knueppel in Rookie of the Year race, both showing outstanding records.
Flagg ultimately showcased how consistent he is and how capable he is of tackling challenges, winning him his first award with many to come.
Flagg edged Knueppel by a score of 26 points in the voting with 56 first-place votes and 44 second-place votes.
This race wasn’t won by far either. These ex-teamers were very close and eye to eye when it came to voting.
“I see the games every night. I can check the box scores,” Flagg said when asked how close of an eye he kept on Knueppel. “I think also I was watching Kon just because that’s one of my brothers.”
Off the court, Cooper and Kon are brothers. They have played with each other, reaching the semifinals before the national championship in college and are now opponents.
Being a top team in college and dominating the college basketball scene, they are now 2 competitive opponents.
“We had such a good connection, and we’re gonna be there for each other for the rest of our lives. I was watching him as a fan, as well, but there was obviously that competition at the same time,” says Flagg.
Flagg is just someone who loves competition.
Flagg was the NO.1 pick in the NBA draft so coming into the NBA, he knew he had to prove something and everyone saw that.
“Well-deserved award. I think it just sets the tone for his career,” Dallas Mavericks Head Coach Jason Kidd says.
