LINK Crew is accepting applications for new members at Struthers High School until April 23rd.
LINK is a program that is open to upcoming juniors and seniors. They can become a link leader by submitting an application and being accepted. LINK is aimed to help incoming freshmen feel more welcome and comfortable at the high school. The members of LINK assist freshmen throughout the year by making sure they are adjusting well to the high school.
Delayna Latimer, an upcoming junior, is applying to be a LINK leader for selfless reasons.
“I want to join LINK because it’s nice to help the incoming freshmen the way that we were helped freshman year, and I want them to experience high school to the fullest,” says Latimer.
Mrs. Monus is one of the LINK Crew Coordinators and prior to being a coordinator, she helped run WEB: a middle school version of Link with 8th graders helping 5th graders adjust to the middle school. This year marks the end of her second year being a coordinator. She likes being able to meet the incoming freshmen before having them in class.
She has a want for more students to see the opportunities that LINK holds.
Monus says, “I wish I had more students willing to stay after school and see the benefits of LINK that I see.”
Mrs. Monus works alongside Mr. Basile, who is also a LINK Crew Coordinator. Her favorite event that they did during LINK this past year was the “LINK Olympics” because everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and it allowed the freshmen to build a strong relationship with their LINK Leaders.
She enjoys building connections with the students.
“I can even build a relationship with the upperclassmen that I don’t see in class,” says the coordinator.
