SHS senior class along with teacher Mrs.Mickler hosted the school’s 5th consecutive winter dance on February 28th, 2026.
The dance was themed “Winter in Bloom”. This was decided by senior Samantha Minno. The reason for this theme is because of the fact the time of year the dance was held. It was held towards the end of winter when the weather started to warm up, preparing for the coming bloom of spring.
Senior class rep Samantha Minno is very pleased with how her ideas were brought to life for this dance.
“I think that we executed the theme very well. I created a slideshow that had different tan, white, and blue shades with ideas for a backdrop and centerpieces. I knew mason jars, fairy lights, and blue tones flowers would be a great touch for the aesthetic,” says Minno.
The budget of this dance was dependent on the ticket sales. The dance planners did their best to convince students to participate. Specifically targeting the underclassmen, considering they can not attend prom this year.
The planners had a lot of work to do to put on this dance.
Minno says, “I put a lot of planning into this event. There was a specific aesthetic I wanted to go for and I had so many backup plans in case something went wrong. I made slideshows, flyers, and posted on our class of 2026 Instagram details about the dance.”
Big plans are in the making thanks to Samantha Minno who intends to continue being involved in school activity planning. She hopes to get others involved as well, becoming comfortable with the planning processes. Perhaps in hopes to “pass the torch” after graduation.
It was a lot of work, but in the end it was all worth it to Minno.
Minno says, “Towards the end of the dance, there were only around 10 people in the dance circle. Considering the dance was ending and not many people decided to dance, it reassured me that there were still people that genuinely wanted to be there and all of my hard work paid off.”
