Struthers National Honor Society Students gathered together on Saturday, April 4 to bring Easter cheer to the kids of their community by placing Easter eggs around their yards.
This egg hunt is a fundraiser performed by NHS where parents pay SHS students to fill easter eggs with candy and go to their houses and hide the eggs in their yards. Students help NHS Advisor Stephanie Mickler fill, bag and deliver the eggs.
Bringing Easter cheer to the community was not a hard endeavor for NHS member Emily McDowell.
“It was extremely easy,” says McDowell.
This fundraiser has been in effect for the past four years in Struthers. NHS advisor and teacher Stephanie Mickler takes control of this fundraiser and ensures it goes smoothly every year.
McDowell is a fan of the fundraiser and its effects on Struthers citizens.
McDowell says, “I think it’s always encouraging for children to see teenagers and other adults in their community getting involved. I think it also allows parents who work or cannot get to the store to still be able to provide fun memories for their children.”
The funding for this fundraiser comes from the Struthers NHS account. Each fundraiser’s earnings go back into said account for the next fundraiser. It is a continuous loop.
McDowell believes that this fundraiser should continue through the NHS.
“This is a quick, easy and fun fundraiser that not only helps the NHS out but also parents who might work and not have the time to fill eggs,” says McDowell.
