Travis McMurray is a junior at Struthers High School who plays baseball. He has been playing since he was 9 years old and wants to continue to play in the future.
His main position is catcher, and he enjoys that position, even though it takes a lot of work and skill.
He always tries to critique himself and see if there is anything he can do to improve when going through a slump.
“If I’m in a slump, I will look more into my swing like what flaws I have or what is breaking down. For a tough loss I kinda just look back on it and see what we need to clean up,” says McMurray.
His biggest motivators are his parents. His dad is his biggest inspiration.
McMurray’s team is doing relatively better than in previous years.
“I feel we are way better than we have been. We play more as a team. We just need to clean some stuff up. I feel as if we are a winning team. We are just in a bad spot of the schedule right now, but we are competing really well against good teams,” says McMurray.
His most memorable and favorite moments are when he hit a walk-off on his birthday and when the baseball team went to tournaments.
Since baseball is such a mental sport that can have some very tough moments, but he does have a way to manage this.
“Just pay attention and really play with confidence because baseball is a game of failure,” says McMurray.
Overall, McMurray enjoys playing baseball and plans to continue his career another year in high school and also if the opportunity arrives he wants to play baseball at a higher level.
