Rowan Hetrick is a senior at Struthers High School. He is a very intelligent, creative and outgoing person.
Hetrick has been golfing for about a year now. He would dedicate a certain time of his day to go to the range and work on having a better swing.
Realizing you aren’t good at something, especially at a sport you enjoy, is tough but taking extra time to change what you’re doing to make yourself better is even harder. That is something that the senior did.
“While at the NE8 tournament, I realized I wasn’t good and I really just needed to scrap the entire way I play and learn again. After I started doing what I did before, I started to do better,” says the athlete.
Though the student has not been golfing for long, he picked up this difficult sport very quickly. He improved everything from his swing to making pars.
Golfing is a very difficult sport, and it takes lots of practice. The senior has done a ton of work outside of the season and during to get better.
“Even making par once was a big accomplishment for me while it shouldn’t be that important. It was pretty big for me to show I was getting better at golf,” says Hetrick.
Quality time with friends is very important to many people, especially this student. He wanted to participate in something that would bring him and his friends closer.
Lots of people tend to do sports because of friends, and that is an amazing thing. It not only brings you closer to them, but it also brings lots of encouragement to keep going and be better.
“It was really my friends Emery and Harry; they always talked about it, so I just thought it would be something we could all do together,” says the senior.
