AI can be useful whether it’s for work, fun facts or school. While it has taken lots of research to be as advanced as we are, it’s not as great as it seems.
AI is incredibly harmful to our environment and is gradually becoming more and more destructive.
Over the past couple of years, AI has rapidly become more complex. With it being so convenient and (mostly) accurate, people have begun to rely on it. Without knowing the side effects that are being triggered with every AI prompt, this can be a future issue. “Environmental Considerations for Using AI” states, “While AI can be used effectively in support of resource conservation and sustainability efforts, the use of this technology comes at a large environmental cost. AI is powered similarly to traditional internet search engines but at a much higher rate. It is estimated that using a generative AI service such as ChatGPT or Copilot for a single query can take seven to 10 times more energy than a simple Google web search.” This gives the idea that even though it may seem like a normal thing as we all use Google and or other search engines every day; it is unfortunately taking a toll on our environment. Based on statistics, over 2.5 billion prompts are asked just on ChatGPT every day. This is almost equal from 85,000 gallons to over 77 million gallons annually.
Some people find AI an amazing addition to modern technology. In fact, AI is impressively quick with responses, analyzing and its enhancement features. While this isn’t completely wrong, the pros outweigh the cons by far. It’s misleading and can even spread false/wrong information. It is a major threat to working people; their jobs being at risk due to AI advancing.
AI isn’t entirely bad. It does have its benefits and perks, but it also has its drawbacks. People don’t fully realize how truly pernicious it is.
In summary, AI is progressively deteriorating our environment and stealing education and intelligence from our society.
