Although it’s a good idea to learn a foreign language no matter the age, it’s a better idea for schools to implement learning another language at a younger age rather than for people that are almost fully grown.

There are plenty of reasons schools should teach a foreign language at a younger age rather than an older age. For starters, when learning a foreign language there is going to be a lot of information that is needed to be remembered. Younger children retain that plethora of information better than older people will. Secondly, learning another language will increase a student’s social skills with foreign students. As a student gets older, there will most likely be instances where they come across people that speak foreign languages. Learning another language at a young age will make communication with that individual come naturally. Nextly, learning a foreign language at a young age can help them land a job as they get older. Many people that are looking for somebody to hire, look for somebody that is different from the rest and have applicable skills. Speaking another language will most likely set that individual apart making it easy to communicate with foreign customers. Speaking two languages causes children to remember and connect concepts across languages. This can expand their memory and help with all different kinds of activities that require memorization.” Learning another language at a young age will help the students success throughout schooling by being able to connect with things easier.
People might say that learning a foreign language is not a necessity to graduate so it shouldn’t be forced upon a child. Although this is true, schools should still offer foreign language classes. These classes should be taught as a special class, similar to how music, gym and art is.
Young children that are interested in learning another language should have the opportunity to. The student should be given the opportunity to learn it instead of having to wait till they’re in high school in order to learn the language. In order to make this happen, schools could start offering a class in either elementary or middle school that students can opt in to take.
With all things considered, learning a foreign language at a younger age is better than learning a foreign language as an older child. It provides multiple benefits that can improve the child’s schooling, communication and help with their futures as well. Schools should offer foreign language classes at lower grades in order to improve the success of learning the language.
