Mr. Pape teaches two CCP classes: History of American Democracy and Discovering World History. He has been teaching here at Struthers High School for 7 years.
Along with his two CCP classes, he teaches Global Studies, Geography, History of Film and PC. The Global Studies teacher is a very helpful teacher; he really takes his time when reviewing topics and is always open to lend a helping hand.
CCP classes require different skills vs his regular classes.
“The CCP classes are definitely more work than a regular high school history class. Students have to read and write more than they normally would. The classes also move a little faster compared to a high school level class,” says Pape.
The CCP teacher is a very fitting person for this job. He loves helping out, and he has liked history since he was younger. When asking around to kids that participate in Pape’s CCP classes, 80% of people say it is not too bad compared to normal classes, other than more quickly paced.
Mr.Pape has different approaches when it comes to teaching certain classes.
“It depends on the assignment. This year, I do more work on paper than I ever have before, especially in classes like Global Studies. Bigger assignments, like essays, are still done on the computer though. But, if I had to pick one or the other, I would pick on paper at this point,” speaks Pape.
The American Democracy teacher has been teaching for several years and is known for creating and engaging class discussions. He encourages students to think critically about the world and stay informed about global issues. His teaching style focuses on preparation, responsibility and helping other students succeed both inside and outside of school.
Pape knows the value of history, the teacher highlights its deeper purpose.
“To improve their critical thinking skills. That is what a subject like history is all about. It’s not just about memorizing facts. It’s about being able to analyze a document, make connections to historical events and make an argument about something that is supported with evidence,” says Pape.
