Struthers High School Robotics Club went to their second competition of this season on January 13th.
The robotics team has been preparing for this competition since their first one in November. One team (“Group G”) is currently ranked 4th. As they go through all 4 competitions, their rank will rise or lower based on how well they do in their matches. They have been working extra hard by staying after school just to make sure the robot is ready.
Mr. Donatelli, the Robotics Coach, anticipates Group G going to state.
“Group G making it to state all depends on the last 2 competitions but the potential is there,” says the coach.
Zachary Telego, a member of Group G, feels that his team is progressing well as they attend more competitions. He thinks that the improvements made on the bot were good choices because they scored more points overall compared to their 1st competition. At one point in the competition, his team was in 2nd place before ending in 4th.
He believes that the robot’s performance exceeded his expectations.
Telego says, “Some of the things that went well is the autonomous score and the robot performed the best that it ever has.”
Delaney Painter, another member of Group G, thinks that both competitions went well, but the most recent one was better than the first because their rank moved up after they were able to score more. She believes that her group ranked so high because her team gets done what needs to be done. Even though no major changes need to be made for their next competition, they will still make adjustments to ensure success.
She recalls how well her teammate did outnumbered in the match.
“My favorite part was when we won the match alone and Zach scored over 30 points on his own,” says the teammate.
Robotics is wrapped up for the season.
