Every day students seem to skip breakfast; however, this can have long lasting effects towards academic performance.
Skipping breakfast before school means that students don’t have the fuel and energy they need to get through the school day, sacrificing their focus and learning capabilities.
This habit that students develop causes less engagement and more harm to their educational presentation. According to the National Library of Medicine, “Approximately 9·6 % of students reported always skipping breakfast, with 35·4 % sometimes skipping and 55·0 % never skipping. In the adjusted linear regression models, children and adolescents who always skipped breakfast reported lower levels of cognitive engagement.” This proves that skipping breakfast before school can negatively impact educational achievement, capabilities, focus and engagement. Breakfast is important for everyone but especially for the youth.
Others may say that breakfast isn’t important to a student’s academic performance and does not affect the student in any way. Clearly, breakfast is important because of the energy that students need for a day at school. If students don’t get this energy, they may fall behind and focus more on food and sleep rather than their studies.
Thankfully, many schools have breakfasts before classes; however, many students don’t know or act like they don’t need breakfast. Because the first meal of the day is so important, it makes sense that we make this more widespread across schools and ensure that students know about breakfast and that they need it.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Students should never go without it.
