Samantha Minno is a senior at Struthers High School who plays softball and cheers. She is very passionate about both of these things. Minno has played softball for 12 years.
The student athlete is the Senior Class President, as well as National Honor Society Vice President. Minno has a huge impact on the school with the things she does.
Most students get caught up on the idea of staying on the path of having good grades and being present for class. Meanwhile, the real fun of being a senior is participating in everything and anything; you can do all those things while maintaining an amazing GPA. These things only encourage you to show up more.
“I am in the Interact and Future Teachers Club, co-captain of the cheerleading team. I love doing all of these because it really keeps me busy and involved. I love feeling like I have a big role in the school because of how involved I am, and this is very important because it gives me a positive leadership mindset for the future,” says the athlete.
The senior plays middle infield (shortstop and second base). Minno is mainly shortstop now which is very important to the team due to the defensive demands.
Participating in a sport for almost your whole life can become exhausting in a way. There are certain people in your life that help you find love for that sport again, and for Sam it was her dad.
“My dad was a huge part in why I started playing softball and was even my coach for most of it. Sticking with a sport for such a long time can be very hard, but he was always there for me, from giving me advice, going to all of my games, and doing everything he could to make me improve. I love softball and it made me and my dad so close which is the biggest reason why I’ve played all of these years,” says the Senior.
The National Honor Society member has joined indoor softball leagues to get a headstart for the upcoming season.
Despite never having the chance before, the Senior Class President is ready to explore playing at a higher level if the opportunity arises.
“If I got an offer somewhere I would definitely look into it. But, I’ve honestly never thought that I had the potential to play at that level. I know that I would adjust, but I’ve just never had that opportunity,” says the student athlete.
