Students have to take notes to help on tests and assignments; most students type notes via computer. However, typing notes is much less effective than writing notes.
Writing notes helps students remember the material, and overall makes students think harder.
If students begin to hand write notes more often, it prevents cheating on assignments. When cheating happens, it causes students to have less academic skills because they aren’t thinking. Handwritten note-taking also improves the memory, According to Scientificamerican.com “A recent study in Frontiers in Psychology monitored brain activity in students taking notes and found that those writing by hand had higher levels of electrical activity across a wide range of interconnected brain regions responsible for movement, vision, sensory processing and memory.” This illustrates the student mind and how memory of notes changes depending on technology and physical note taking. Not only is handwritten notes better for learning in school, it’s also better for learning the real world and how things work.
Others may say that technology is the future, and that the impact of technology affects the student mind positively. People may also believe that physical note taking is old and not as fast as typing notes. Although technology may be the future and does have a huge impact on our generation, note taking is one of the most important tasks that a student can do in the school environment. Changing something only because of the new technology that we have doesn’t make it better.
In order for students to have better note-taking skills, teachers have to only allow students to write notes, and others have to make it known why and how this way of learning is the better option. The student mind is very important, and if students need to succeed taking these steps is the starting point.
If this better way of note taking is more utilized, students will be able to learn more. Why need to change something if nothing was ever wrong?
