Struthers Elementary School hosted a dance for students to attend with a person in their life they appreciate on Friday, November 14th.
SES has held a special persons’ dance for the past 8 years, and it continues to be a hit for students and families in the community. This event is very inclusive for the kids by not just including parents, but anybody special in the children’s life; therefore, no student will feel left out.
Freshman volunteer, Mason Wortman, enjoyed pitching in for this event.
Wortman says, “It was a fun event and personally I had fun and helped out.”
Struthers High School students pitched in to help with the dance. Having students from freshman all the way up to senior year lending a hand. Some students often look forward to events like these ones that aim to make the kids in the community happy.
Freshman volunteer Wortman advocates for student volunteering, as long as they’re prepared.
“I think students should volunteer because it is fun and If students don’t want to help then don’t come because it is a lot of work and be ready to work because it can be a lot sometimes,” says Wortman.
The high school’s Interact and Future Teachers Clubs have been involved in the dance for as long as it’s been around. Their involvement with the dance is part of the reason it goes so smoothly. The clubs usually draw in a large number of students to help every year.
Teacher and director of both clubs, Stephanie Mickler, believes students enjoy volunteering for this event because of the special memories the dance holds.
“I would say it’s one of Future Teachers’ most popular events because it’s nostalgic in a way because it takes the members back to when they were younger. So, it’s a fun event, and it’s good to introduce younger kids to students they should look up to,” says Mickler.
