Recent test scores have dropped to the lowest scores in decades.
Test scores are dropping, and people should be worried.
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) test scores have been dropping sharply in 2024; the seniors’ reading scores being the lowest since the test began in 1992. Also, math scores are dropping too with some of the lowest test scores in decades, and it’s not just at the high school level it is in all the schools. 8th grade science scores were the lowest since 2009, and the gap between the high performing students and the low performing students being the biggest ever recorded. Also in 2022, the 9- year-old students experienced the first ever decline in math and the largest reading decline since 1990. PBS says,”Math and reading scores dropped to their lowest levels in more than two decades among high school seniors. That’s according to the Nation’s Report Card put out by the National Assessment of Educational Progress. It shows that student achievement has continued to decline since the pandemic.”
People believe that test scores aren’t a factor in success, so they do not really care about why test scores are dropping. There is evidence that test scores correlate with further success. Another part of this is people place blame on teachers and administrators while kids are giving up on school.
What needs to change is the kids and their parents need to care more about test scores and school. They need to team up to prepare the kids.
Test scores correlate with your future success and set you up for further academic achievements. Also, getting used to studying and preparing for tests helps you get ready for the future.
