Multiple schools enforce students to wear a uniform and limit what students can wear to school.
High school students should not be forced to wear a uniform.
Students not having to wear uniforms brings overall more benefits to students. Firstly, wearing uniforms limits the amount of freedom students have. Many students express themselves differently; some using their clothing in order to express themselves. No uniforms are also more convenient for a student. If a student has a late morning and doesn’t have time, it’s simply easier to throw on the first thing someone sees in their closet compared to having to find a uniform. Being able to wear whatever is also better budgeting wise bc if you’re not provided with all the uniforms and multiple pairs; it’s going to take a toll on the parents because they have to buy new uniforms. According to “School Uniforms” by the editors of Procon, “The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees that all individuals have the right to express themselves freely.” Clothing also doesn’t affect the education of school which is the point.
Schools might say that not wearing uniforms encourages bullying. Although no uniforms can influence bullying, it’s going to happen either way. If a student appears to be getting bullied for what they’re wearing, they can communicate that with an adult or parent to get it handled.
Schools that have uniforms can be taken down by students protesting the schools laws. For schools that don’t have uniforms, they can decrease the chances of bullying by the staff being more involved. If the staff sees someone being bullied, they can alert the principal in order to get the student a punishment for their actions.
To sum it up, schools should not enforce students to wear a uniform because it interferes with the students freedom and the convenience of normal clothing.
