The usage of AI has become much more prevalent over the past few years. Should it be as popular and used as it is?
The fact its usage has gone so rampant is a testament to why it shouldn’t be used as such a crutch for the education of many.
In terms of education, it’s important for work to actually be completed by the student, rather than by someone else. The issue with AI is that it’s the same as a third-party completing something instead of a person. Many blame AI for replacing jobs, but it doesn’t help that they are using it for everything else. The over-normalization of AI usage in everyday life is only going to end up harming everyone. Some have even begun “personifying” AI, so much so that the state of Ohio is pushing legislation against it. Cleveland.com states, “House Bill 469 would declare that artificial intelligence systems can’t be considered people — meaning they can’t marry, own property, or act as someone’s legal proxy.”
While it may seem comical to an extent, the bill is simply drawing a line in the sand. Ignoring certain absurdity; this is a reasonable countermeasure for an unknown future. What if, is the right question, because what if this is a problem in the future. There’s a difficult balance between whether this bill is necessary or not, however, who really knows at this point.
The genuine truth is that there is no right answer, however at some point there’s a reasonable risk of this being a problem. In what future would a bill need to be passed to prevent ‘AI marriages,’ the answer may be ours. This is all but a necessary countermeasure and seems like a safe bet to put into law in case that ever becomes real and just a fictitious future. The bill has more protections than just that; it would ban ownership of property from anything than a person or organization. That would prevent AI ever owning property, at least in the state of Ohio.
This seems like a genuine effort on the part of Ohio’s legislation to protect the people from an uncertain future of AI ownership. While its over-usage may be bad enough, imagine a future where it becomes even more than just that. This protects the people from that.
