Interact Club members helped at Maplecrest Fall Fest in Struthers, Ohio on October 25th.
Maplecrest Nursing Home held its annual event for the community from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Fall Fest had live music, games, and fall refreshments. Additionally, there was time put aside for trick or treating from the residents. This event was completely free and open to the public.
Mariah Carter, high school volunteer, enjoyed watching others be joyful.
“My favorite part was seeing all of the kids get candy from the residents and seeing them so happy,” says Carter.
The games that were there were mainly for the children, but adults were allowed to participate as well. Some of the volunteers signed up through the Interact Club, and they helped run the games. Other volunteers who weren’t signed up from the Interact Club were signed up through the Struthers Rotary.
Carter was overjoyed watching everyone at the event.
“I enjoyed it a lot. I loved seeing all of the kids have fun while playing games with their friends and family,” says the volunteer.
This annual event is beneficial for the residents at the nursing home and for people in Struthers. It gives an opportunity for adults to bring their kids to a free Halloween event and for the residents to see their family.
Karii Tufaro, a Maplecrest worker, has selfless motivations for volunteering.
Tufaro says, “I do it for the community and for the residents.”
