Jonice Coats is a junior at Struthers High School. She is a part of the high school girls bowling team.
The girls high school bowling team qualified for state for 3 years in a row. The girls went undefeated this season, leading them to first place at Districts.
Going to state and having an amazing season leads to excitement and nerves.
“I’ve never been to state with the bowling team before, so I was very new to it all. I can say that I did like the hotel food,” says Coats.
Coats has only been with the team for a year, so she had no experience before. This led her to practice hard and try her best.
Bowling can be challenging, and can be a big part of the mind.
“There are plenty of things that make bowling a hard sport. Personally, the hardest part for me is when you have to keep a steady mind while doing bad,” said the athlete.
Next season, Coats will be a senior, so it will be the end of the chapter. There are lots of emotions with closing the book.
Keeping a positive mind and having fun is important.
“The main goal for me at the moment is to just enjoy it while it lasts. [I want to] try to accomplish as many things as possible, and improve my bowling skills,” says the junior.
