The second semester at Struthers High School came to an end on January 15, 2024. Now, students are more than ready for a new and improved start.
Many students considered the first half of the year a success. With events such as Homecoming, Friday Night Lights, midterms and more, students were able to accomplish a lot while also enjoying time with their classmates. Students worked hard all semester and are now prepared for a fresh start for the second half of the year.
Sophomore Addison Liptak enjoyed the first half of the year.
“My first half of the year was pretty good. I had a lot of fun with all of the different school events going on,” says Liptak.
Entering the new nine weeks, many students have set goals for themselves that they plan on working hard to achieve. Every year, the start of a new semester means your absences, tardies, vouchers and grades all reset. With this, students are eager to use this to their advantage and do better this half of the year. The clean slate has given the students the perfect amount of motivation to succeed with their goals.
Liptak is planning on improving this grading period.
“My goal for this semester is to maintain my grades. Although my grades weren’t as great as I wanted them to be during the first semester, I hope I can work even harder to make up for them,” says Liptak.
Aside from all the work and dedication the students are ready to put in these next 18 weeks, they are also very excited because most believe it is not nearly as stressful as the beginning of the year. Without midterms, or getting used to new teachers and classes, students feel much more at ease. Also, students have more time to spend with their friends and families, and even focus on their own interests. This is why students really look forward to this time of the school year.
Liptak is very excited for the second semester.
“I am excited about it being the second half of the year because the second semester always feels a bit more relaxed. I feel like now that midterms are over. I can focus on my sports and other hobbies a bit more,” says Liptak.
