Tekeria Brown-Holness is a junior at Struthers High School and is a runner for the upcoming spring season of track.
She did try out for tennis during her freshman year but decided it wasn’t for her. Track was the best sport for her and she found this out with more practice.
Holness has been running track since she was in eighth grade. The future is unpredictable for Holness and her track journey.
“I am very undecided if I want to continue running because of how busy my schedule is; however, I would like to get a college scholarship for running,” says the runner.
Running gives Holness joy and reminds her of how she needs to push herself to be the best. Being active is better than not putting her potential to use.
Track keeps her in shape and ready for the next meet. Holness keeps up with her sport and gives the best effort.
“It gives me something to do instead of just sitting at home. Plus, it’s a great form of exercise for the summer,” says Holness.
The coaches really bring the best out in the team. Holness enjoys her springing coach and conversing with the distance coach.
Keeping up with track can be tricky in the off season. Indoor track does take a big toll in getting the runners prepared.
“Usually, we do indoor track and conditioning in the winter. Sometimes we do conditioning in the summer, but this year we haven’t done any indoor,” says the athlete.
