Jayson Viera is a junior point guard and shooting guard on JV who plays basketball and is new to Struthers High School. He came from South Hagerstown High School, which is located in Maryland.
Viera has been playing basketball since his freshman year. He did switch up and play football his sophomore year, all at South Hagerstown.
Although the player misses home, he is ready to take on the new adventure of being at Struthers.
“I am excited to be on this team, it’s a different experience. I feel like my coaches here at Struthers are a lot more experienced, they push us to be the best we can be,” says the point guard.
Struthers isn’t too new to Viera; he knew a good friend of his before he decided to stay at Struthers for good.
Knowing someone at a different school can help any nerves he might have had coming into a new school, but he did feel welcomed.
“I knew one of the players, Tommy Cole. Tommy and I grew up together, when I used to come down and visit my dad we hung out all the time, so whenever I moved down here I already knew Tommy,” says the new wildcat player.
The school has been welcoming to Viera. The staff and other players were enjoyable to meet and treated him with respect.
Viera enjoys the coach and his hardworking attitude that he expresses to him and to the whole team. The surroundings that are around the player were just simple and more down low for him.
“The coach definitely cares for all of his players, the environment is very chill. There is not too much happening, everyone is just doing what is needed,” says Viera.
