Struthers High School English teacher Ms. Drabison has been offering English lessons and knowledge for three years; all three years have been devoted to Struthers High School.
Drabison has a strong background in the field of English.
“I went to Austintown Fitch High School and YSU for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees,” says Drabison.
For a deeper insight, it’ll be considerable to understand why she chose the field of English in the first place.
“It’s interesting! I enjoy the amount of literature there is and how it is constantly growing. I also like reading older pieces and seeing my students connect with them, even though they were written hundreds of years ago. I don’t think I can ever be bored with English since there is so much content to work with,” says Drabison.
Drabison supplies 9th and 10th grades with her English knowledge and comprehension skills. She teaches students about literature and writing abilities in order to prepare them after high school. She assigns various types of English content like novels, short stories, poems, plays and general writing assignments.
Drabison holds high viewpoints of her students and has a positive perspective on academic success.
“My students are all unique and each brings something different to the classroom. I am lucky to have them all in class,” says Drabison.
The teacher explains her love for the creativity of her students. All students have a unique perspective on the field of English. Drabison admires students having success in assignments with their creative minds that stick out from the rest.
Drabison has many favorite parts about teaching.
“I enjoy teaching. I love to bring new ideas to the classroom, create fun activities and see my students connect with the content at hand,” says Drabison.
Drabison finds every English aspect as an English teacher to introduce something new; she doesn’t have a least favorite part of teaching.
Drabison feels that there are subtle inconveniences of being an English teacher.
“I would say the hardest part is finding literature/books that the majority of my students would like to read! Like I said before, each student is unique, so it is difficult to find pieces that they all enjoy. I try my best to find fun and engaging reads for my classes but sometimes it works out better than others,” says Drabison.
Drabison thinks very highly of Struthers.
“I like the community of Struthers! It is very tight-knit and community focused,” says Drabison.
Drabison prefers teaching at Struthers, no matter the circumstances. Even with the offer of teaching at other schools, she’d rather teach at Struthers High School because of how small and great the community is.
Drabison is unsure of whether or not she would choose a different career.
“Honestly, I don’t know! I have always wanted to be a teacher, so I don’t really have a ‘dream job’ since this is it,” says Drabison.
Drabison enjoys partaking in English and grammatical teachings. From her love of the creativity of her students to her experiences and honors in the Struthers community, Drabison appreciates having the area of Struthers and teaching at Struthers High School.
