The Struthers Interact Club will be collecting plastic from now until the end of the school year as a fundraiser for their school and the community.
The club will be placing collection boxes in the elementary school, middle school and high school to collect plastic that students donate. The company Trex is sponsoring the collection boxes and is working to help the school collect a total of 500 pounds of plastic.
Stephanie Mickler, the head of the Interact Club, praises the purpose of the project and how it benefits everyone.
“It helps reuse plastic for a good cause. It’s always good to help the environment. Plus, this project allows us to achieve a goal,” says Mickler.
The purpose of this is to help the school while also helping the local environment. Once the 500 pounds are collected, the plastic will be given to Trex, who will then turn it into a bench that will be donated back to the school, courtesy of the Interact Club.
Mickler is excited to give back through the project.
“We will be able to donate the bench to school and leave our mark,” says Mickler.
The plastic collection allows the Interact Club to focus on an environmentally friendly project that helps bring the community together. By working to create a lasting effect, students learn valuable lessons about life and the importance of protecting the world they live in.
The club leader appreciates the way this project will provide a positive impact on the community and all those involved.
“I am looking forward to achieving a goal and donating something good and worthwhile to our school,” says Mickler.
