The Cincinnati Bengals acquired defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II from the New York Giants, on April 19, in exchange for the Bengals first round draft pick.
Losing the formal beast defence of lineman, Trey Hendrickson, the Bengals now have hope in Lawrence, that he will put up the same fight Hendrickson did.
At 6 foot 4 inches, and 342 pounds, Lawernce should have no problem getting through the offense of linemen in front of him.
Finally, getting the offer to add to the defensive line was something the Bengals could not resist.
“The opportunity to add a player of Dexter’s ability was too good to pass up thanks to the commitment by Mr. Brown, Katie Blackburn, Troy Blackburn, Paul Brown and our player personnel staff,” said Bengals Director of Player Personnel Duke Tobin.
In 2019, Lawrence was drafted to the Giants and has since played 109 career games, has gotten 341 tackles and 30.5 sacks.
Cincinnati is looking forward to a new body on the team and seeing how things play out.
“We are excited to add Dexter to our team. He has been a dominant player in the league since he was drafted, and he will be a tremendous presence on the field and in our locker room,” said Bengals Head Coach Zac Taylor.
Lawrence was chosen a total of three times to go to the Pro-Bowl and was chosen twice to the All Pro Second Team.
“Dexter fits the vision we have on our defense and will also elevate others around him. We are confident in Dexter and can’t wait to see the positive effects he and the other players we have acquired this offseason have on our football team. We are excited to turn to the draft and our remaining picks to further enhance our team,” says Tobin.
