The Dallas Cowboys drafted Malachi Lawrence on April 23.
The Cowboys adding a great edge rusher is nothing but help; their defense was the weak link last year, and they are focused on making that better.
Lawrence played for UCF for four years and racked up 72 total tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 20 sacks and 3 forced fumbles.
Lawrence has always dreamed of playing in the NFL; he is blessed to be drafted and is ready to go.
“Been playing football since I was five and always wanted to play in the NFL,” said Lawrence.
Lawrence was picked up by the Cowboys in the first round with the 23rd overall pick.
He is already fitting in with the Cowboys staff; he is more excited than anyone.
“From the moment he got the call as the 23rd-overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, he realized he’d be reunited with a familiar face on the coaching staff,” said Cowboys writer Patrik Walker.
Lawrence is a really good edge rusher; he can change directions very well, and he always knows what to do at the right moment.
He has great potential, and he is a very hard worker who is willing to do whatever to get on the field.
“I was only in the building for a year with Malachi but, even in that year, you could tell how special he was in the way he approached practice and the way he attacked game days on Saturdays. I’m really excited to have him part of our organization. He will really help us out,” said coach Demeitre Brim.
