Free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr wants to return to the New York Giants.
Beckham, 33, returned to his desire at a flag football event last week for a reunion with the Giants; his former coach seemed to be open to the possibility.
Beckham traveled to Arizona this week to have conversations with the New York Giants at the NFL’s annual meeting. He spent the first five years of his career with the Giants after they selected him in the first round of the 2014 draft. OBJ earned all three of his Pro Bowl selections during that stint with the Giants.
OBJ explains what he wants to do about football in the future.
“Looking forward to hopefully getting an opportunity to play this year, and this is kind of just the starting point,” Beckham said at the flag football event.
The veteran receiver has the support of some of the current Giants players. Quarterback Jaxson Dart and wide receiver Malik Nabers have informed the team that they would support adding Beckham. Dart mentioned earlier this offseason that he spoke to Beckham about Harbaugh after he was hired as the Giants coach. Nabers went on Instagram recently and publicly petitioned for Beckham.
Malik Nabers shows his interest in playing alongside OBJ.
“Let’s play together,” Nabers commented on an Instagram post from Beckham.
OBJ would not be asked to fill a big role in the Giants offense because Nabers should be back on the field and healthy after missing nearly his whole second pro season with a torn ACL. The No. 1 thing is What’s best for him and what’s best for the Giants.
Coach Harbaugh describes their relationship over time.
“If Odell’s an option, then we’ll be looking at it, for sure,” Harbaugh said. “He and I do talk. We do text. We’ve maintained a really great relationship. He’s one of my very favorite people in the world.”
