In an offseason that is marked by very strategic moves and key signings, The New York Football Giants are aiming for a competitive push in 2026. The franchise’s future success will be based on how well these new additions adapt to the system and if they can elevate the performance of the team.
New York has a combination of experienced veterans and hopefully some promising newcomers; the Giants have shaped their squad to address both depth and talent.
The only question that remains is if these signings can turn the tide and bring the playoffs back to New York.
“Every move we make is about building a team that can compete at the highest level,” said GM Joe Schoen.
Among the notable acquisitions are long snapper Zach Triner, linebacker Cam Jones and defensive lineman Sam Roberts. Each brings their own set of tools to the table, and the Giants hope they can get the best out of these guys.
Joe Schoen seems to understand what John Harbaugh wants to do with the team and is onboard with the “New Giants” direction of the team.
“Harbaugh believes in great players, regardless of their position or past struggles,” says Schoen.
On defense, the Giants are looking at a reunion with safety Jason Pinnock and added a playmaking cornerback in Greg Newsome, a former first round pick. These additions were made to strengthen the secondary as it faced struggles the past two seasons.
Giants Defensive Coordinator Dennard Wilson spoke his thoughts about the additions of Jason Pinnock and Greg Newsome and seemed happy with the additions.
“Adding proven playmakers like Newsome and Pinnock gives us confidence in our secondary taking the next step,” said Wilson.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Giants brought back key contributors like Joshua Ezeudu and Isaiah Hodgins, while also signing a standout receiver in Darnell Mooney, who is a deep, explosive threat and can make big plays down the field.
The offense also adds a very accomplished tight end in Isaiah Likely who has a dual-threat ability and can be a pass catcher and a blocker; he comes from Baltimore where he played under Harbaugh.
The team’s offensive coordinator Matt Nagy was ecstatic about the moves and is also a big believer in the Harbaugh method.
“Adding someone like Likely gives us more options and versatility on offense,” said Nagy.
Special teams has also seen a big upgrade, which makes fans happy because it seemed like the team didn’t find it important in past years. The Giants signed Jordan Stout who is an All-Pro punter, and they also added a kicker in Jason Sanders, a top scorer in Dolphins history.
Overall, The Giants offseason moves reflect that Coach Harbaugh has a clear intent to attack weaknesses, build depth and make a new culture in New York, one that fans can be proud of.
Harbaugh expressed his feelings about the future and believes that there is enough talent.
“As we look ahead, our focus remains on developing a cohesive, and competitive team that can make a run,” said Coach Harbaugh. “The talent is there, now it’s about execution.”
