The Cincinnati Bengals signed free agent Josh Johnson (Washington Commanders old quarterback) for a one year contract for the 2026 season. With starting quarterback Joe Burrow constantly getting hurt early in the season, it is good for the Bengals to have another backup quarterback be a part of the team.
The Bengals have a constant problem every season, leaving the team with little to no hope. Luckily for Johnson, he was a part of the Bengals before and made progress there and is looking to make more progress.
In 2013, Johnson played with the Bengals, though he did not get much playing time, before leaving in 2015.
Being primarily a backup, Johnson tried to keep up in yards with the other quarterbacks but didn’t do so great.
“Just making sure I knew everything so I can go out here and try to give us the best chance to win. We did some good things on offense, but with what Burrow and the guys were doing on the other side, we couldn’t keep up that day. I threw for 300, but he overshadowed me,” said Johnson.
Last year at Washington, Josh had 372 total yards, which isn’t too bad for a primary backup, but even less at the other teams he was with.
It is an overall privilege to play with Cincinnati with the team overall.
“It still goes back to the fact that who this team has makes it more unique than most other places I’ve been in the West Coast. I’ve never been with two top ten receivers before. The dynamic of it is going to be a lot different for me, and I’m looking forward to seeing it unfold, and how to get better with these guys,” says Johnson.
Almost breaking the record for oldest NFL player for the Bengals, Johnson has been in the league since 2009, and will be turning 40 May 15th. Josh is right behind Joe Flacco for the oldest Bengal.
Johnson makes the most of every opportunity and shows gratefulness for everything the Lord has done for him.
“I live a life of gratitude. When God puts something in front of my face, you have to look at that from a gratitude standpoint,” said Johnson.
