Struthers girls softball players chose their team captains on Wednesday, February 28th.
The two girls selected to be captains are very dedicated and hard-working players.
Junior Riley Guy and senior Samantha Minno were chosen by their teammates to be the team captains.
Guy and Minno were both asked how they think they can improve the team individually.
Guy said, “I think that I can improve how the team shows confidence in everything they do. Our team is known to be hard on ourselves and get put down easily. I was to be a pillar that lifts this team up in attitude and confidence.”
Minno said, “I think that I can improve the team by staying positive. A lot of athletes immediately get down on themselves once they make an error and everybody, including myself, is guilty of letting this affect their performance. My goal is to improve this team’s mindset; no matter how we’re playing in a game, whether we’re winning by 5 or it’s a tie game, we should be positive and try our best. I want to implement this optimism throughout the whole season.”
Minno and Guy really want a positive look on themselves and want their teammates to think highly of them now that they are captains.
Junior Hannah Susanny said, “Riley really is the best team captain for anything because she has very good traits of leadership and determination. She always will try to guide the team and acts just like a mom. I also think Samantha is a great pick as well because she knows how to hype up the team and bring our spirits up when needed, and she’s usually always in a good mood which puts everyone else in that mode.”
Minno and Guy are grateful they got this opportunity for so many different reasons.
Guy says, “I’m beyond grateful I love this sport and this team and for this group of amazing young women to choose me to be someone to turn to is something I’m grateful and excited to leave some lasting impacts on the Struthers softball program.”
Minno says, “I am so grateful for this opportunity for so many different reasons. I have the greatest group of girls that all mean so much to me and a coach that wants what is best for us which we never really had before. I have so much to look forward to this season and cannot wait to lead our team to be the best versions of ourselves.”
The softball girls are excited to see how this season goes with the team captains and how they will benefit the team.
Susany says the team is ready to see how the season goes, and all the scrimmages and practices are building the adrenaline.
