The Mavericks acquired Lakers star Anthony Davis on February 2nd, 2025, in a fan-named one-sided trade, trading away their superstar Luka Doncic.
In an unexpected trade, the Mavericks acquired Anthony Davis who at the time was averaging 25.7 pts and 11.9 and 2.1 bpg in that season.
Mavericks also acquired Max Christie along with the star Center from the Los Angeles Lakers who then took on a big challenge as soon as they stepped foot in Dallas.
The Mavericks were one loss away from being exited from being able to go into the post-season.
“Both of us were caught off [guard], surprised by [the trade],” Davis said. “But that was two months ago. It happened. There’s nothing we can do about it now. Just told him, ‘Good game.’ He played a hell of a game. Just a respect thing.”
In Davis’s first game against his former team, he recorded 13 pts and 11 rbs while struggling to find a shooting rhythm.
Mavs’ star Anthony Davis was obviously shocked and full of emotions, but he instantly knew it was time to get to work.
“We were both truly really excited about what we can do and think we have a great opportunity to win a championship,” says Davis.
The trade was so surprising that Davis didn’t realize how quick of a twist his words would take.
Davis suggested that the Lakers needed another big to fill their missing positions on the court, but Davis didn’t realize the Lakers would be throwing away their number one big.
“I think we need another big,” Davis said. “I feel like I’ve always been at my best when I’ve been the 4, having a big out there.”
As soon as the trade deadline was coming up, the Lakers traded Davis away, losing their big for good.
